AWSA Symposium 2023
The AWSA Symposium 2023 is planned for 29 September to 2 October 2023 at the New Hope School in Cecilia Road, Ashlea Gardens, Pretoria. The registration form contains the programme. (Click here to download)
The theme of the Symposium “Looking Beyond the Bark” is inspired by the artwork of Hennie Odendaal. The work of Hennie will be displayed in an art gallery at the symposium. Work from our turners will also be displayed in another art gallery. You are welcome to bring your own artistic creations to exhibit in the Art Gallery, as well as to bring for critique.
Every woodturner wants to have a very good finish and protection on the items turned by him or her. The development team of the South African based firm Woodoc will be our guests in the opening session. This will be a great opportunity for the turner’s community to tell the Woodoc team what they want from Woodoc. This exciting opening session is followed by 10 very interesting demonstration / presentations by turners from all various regions. A gala function will be hosted on the evening of Sunday, 1 October 2023. Several concurrent demonstrations by turners and learners of New Hope School are also planned.
There are several accommodation facilities available in the area around the school, but the school is also making the hostel rooms available. There are several rooms with two beds and a private bathroom, as well as rooms with more beds. Although dinner will not be supplied on Saturday evening, “braai” facilities will be made available.
